The Impact of the MGH Tobacco Research and Treatment Center Study
The Massachusetts General Hospital’s Tobacco Research and Treatment Center has released a new study that further supports the idea that vaping can be an incredibly effective smoking cessation tool among those trying to quit cigarettes. The study came to this conclusion based on accumulation of data and research recorded to determine whether or not e-cigarette use can help a person stay off of tobacco for good. At a time when the vaping industry is under more scrutiny than ever before, studies like this one remind us that ultimately, vaping is an industry that has helped countless people change their lives for the better.
The study gathered much of its information from a recent PATH study conducted earlier this year. The study observed 8,000 smokers who had decided to attempt to quit cigarettes completely using only e-cigarette devices. The majority of the participants had never used an e-cigarette or vaping device in their life. The study found that an astounding 78 percent of participants were able to successfully refrain from tobacco use for the duration of the study because of vaping.
The study followed the participants for two years. This is because of the fact that the average person who quits smoking relapses within the first year of cessation. The data shows that after even two years, 78 percent of the participants did not go back to cigarette use.
Additionally, the study noted that those who were the most successful with quitting cigarettes with e-cigarettes were vaping daily. This makes sense considering the fact that vaping is designed to give users the same amount of nicotine as cigarettes do. By simply using a vaping device each time a nicotine craving hits, users are more likely to feel satisfied without having to turn to cigarettes.
So, why is it that vaping seems to be such an effective smoking cessation method compared to other popular methods? Well, for one thing, this technology allows users to control the amount of nicotine that they take in by choosing how any puffs to take in one sitting. Additionally, vaping satisfies the physical addiction to smoking in that it allows the user to utilize something that looks and feels much like a cigarette. Holding an e-cigarette in the hand and watching vapor escape through the lips makes former smokers feel like they’re enjoying their old hobby, only without exposing themselves to cigarette smoke.
The Massachusetts General Hospital’s Tobacco Research and Treatment Center devotes a lot of time to studying the different smoking cessation tools and methods that are available to smokers. They concluded that vaping is indeed a very promising product for tobacco users, and that the vaping industry is valuable because of it. Bear in mind that the vaping industry originated out of a desire to help people quit smoking, and the large majority of vapers are former smokers.
Why This Can Help the Vaping Industry
It’s common knowledge that legislators around the country are largely taking an anti-vaping stance at the moment due to misinformation circulating in the media. When studies like these reach the public, however, it becomes harder to deny that the industry is actually helping people. Legislators need facts and research before passing laws regarding vaping, and studies like these help tremendously.
Right now, there’s a false notion circulating that the vaping industry is targeting minors. Clearly, however, the vaping industry always has primarily marketed their products toward adults who are looking for a way to quit cigarettes. This study confirms this by demonstrating just how effective e-cigarette use is. And, this isn’t the only pro-vaping study to come out in the last couple of years. All over the world, studies are being performed that show that vaping is a highly successful method for quitting smoking.
A True Eye-Opening Study
Thanks to this study, we are once more reminded that the vaping industry is here to help smokers quit once and for all. Therefore, we should do everything that we can to defend the vaping industry. As we see more studies like these released to the public, we hope that public opinion sways in favor of vaping so that the industry can continue to change peoples’ lives.
